The Volpe Center is part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT).

My team evaluated the effectiveness of integrated vehicle based safety systems in light vehicles and heavy trucks. These safety systems included lane change/merge warnings (lane changing with a vehicle in your blind spot), lane departure warnings (veering out of lane into a clear area and veering out of lane into an occupied lane with a potential for collision), forward collision warnings (approaching the car in front of you too fast), and curve speed warnings (going into a curve too fast).
